Six ministers were among the 18 guests at our monthly prayer breakfast on May 19, 2018. Guest speaker Pastor Levi Daugherty from Norfolk, VA delivered a message centering on the Blessing.
He explained how God’s first blessing recorded in the Bible was in Gen. 1:21, when He had finished creating all the living creatures and blessed them saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.” The second blessing recorded was after God had created man “in His own image.” This is the one we are all familiar with in Gen. 1:28. It’s similar to the earlier blessing except that God gave man “dominion” over all the other creatures He had created. The third blessing recorded was when God had finished all His initial creation activity “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it…” Gen. 2:3.
Using the parable of the talents to clarify that “multiply” means to take what God has given us (His heart of true love) and multiply it in the world, Pastor Levi clarified that it doesn’t mean to just make babies. Our children should be our most significant multiplication of God’s love in the world, but we should love all people with true love.
He connected with the heart of our ministers by explaining how Jesus wanted to reclaim the blessing that Adam and Eve had lost by receiving a spouse and creating a family, and how the meeting with Moses and Elijah at the Mount of Transfiguration changed that plan from a substantial one to a spiritual one because of the hatred of the Jewish people.
We were all enlightened and inspired to dig deeper into the meaning of all the restoration effort God has invested His heart in to reclaim the blessing for His lost children. We would like to invite Pastor Levi back to Omaha next year, as well.
